SCORING SYSTEM

Battle (100 points)

After each game, tally up Victory Points according to page 102 of the WHFB rulebook. Determine the number of Battle Points you score by comparing the Victory Points Margin on the following table. You will notice under this system is that the only way to recieve a 'draw' is to be equal on Victory Points with your opponent. This is done so as to encourge players to actually play the game and not simply hold back for a draw. Concending a game will be frowned upon as it will negatively affect the overall player standings.

Army Composition (35)

Due to the drawn out process in which army books are released it’s hard for Games Workshop to effectively balance armies across their range. Composition in tournaments is players attempt to introduce some balance back into the game. A tier-based TO marked composition system will be employed for this tournament.

All armies start on the following points for an average army of its type:

Tier 1 (base score 2 pts):
Vampire Counts, Daemons of Chaos, Dark Elves
Tier 2 (base score 4 pts):
Lizardmen, Tomb Kings, Skaven
Tier 3 (base score 5 pts):
Empire, Bretonnians, High Elves, Wood Elves,  Warriors of Chaos, Beastmen
Tier 4 (base score 6 pts):
Chaos Dwarfs, Dwarfs, Dogs of War, Orcs & Goblins, Ogre Kingdoms

Regardless of the Tier system used, some armies have natural disadvantages and find it hard to be competitive. As we want to encourage diversity in armies taken, we have also provided some additional benefits to two armies.

Orcs & Goblins
Allowed to field an army up to 2500 points.
Allowed to field 5 special choices (i.e. an extra special choice).
Ogre Kingdoms
Allowed to field an army up to 2500 points.
Allowed to field 5 special choices (i.e. an extra special choice).
Allowed to field a Slaughtermaster as their Lord level character instead of the Tyrant.

Before the event starts your army list will be assessed by the TO. The list will be marked up or down from the starting value based on the following guidelines. For the two armies with extra benefits fielding the extra points and an extra special slot will not be held against them.

Soft (+1): This list has forsaken most of the tougher options available to it from its army book. It is still competitive but the owning general has made some considerable sacrifices when putting the list together. It is definitely weaker that what you would honestly expect from a tournament version of the army.

Standard (no change): This will be awarded to an army that could be considered a standard tournament build for an army of its type. It is a good solid tournament list that has a selection of tough and weaker elements of the book. It is not over the top in any one category and is what you would expect for a tournament army of this particular type.

Tough (-1): This list includes a few of the nastier combinations, units and/or magical items available to it. Whilst it could be made stronger/nastier it is still considered a hard line tournament version of an army put together from the relevant army book.

Very tough (-2): This particular version of the army contains almost all the tough combinations, units and items. It has basically left nothing out and would represent one of the strongest versions of this particular army. The owner of this army is bringing to bear the best his/her army book can bring.

The players composition score will be added to their battle score after every game to be factored into the match-ups for the next round. Players, depending on what army they take, will therefore receive a total of between 0 and 35 composition points after all five games. Players should not feel hamstrung by the composition rules, or feel they are being punished for taking certain armies/army lists. This composition system is being employed to help ensure that the best performing players take the top spots irrespective of the relative strength of their army books.

Sportsmanship (20)

Sportsmanship will go towards determining the "Best Sports" award and will also be worth 20 points to the overall score. At the end of each game you will be asked to score your opponent against the following criteria:

Excellent conduct. What more can I say? I wish more players were this good. 4 points
Average conduct. What I expected. Played within the spirit of the game. 3 points
Below Average conduct. I expected more. They need to lift their game. 2 points
Very Poor conduct. Mmmm. Do I need to say more? 1 point
Deplorable conduct. Expulsion from the event should be considered 0 points

Players will therefore receive a total of between 0 (for not being given any points by any of your opponents) to 25 sportsmanship points (five points each from all five opponents). At the end of day 1 you will be asked to nominate, from the three opponents you faced on the day, one player who stood above all the others when it came to Sporting behaviour.

At the end of day 2 you will be asked to nominate, from the three opponents you faced on the day, one player who stood above all the others when it came to Sporting behaviour.

You can then choose which of your two daily nominations your most sporting opponent of the weekend was. Each player that is the final nomination at the end of day 2 will receive one point. These points will be used as a tie breaker to determine Best Sports if there are players tied on the maximum score of 30.

Painting

Army Appearance will contribute to the “Best Painted Army” category. The “Best Painted Army” will be decided by popular vote by the players on the second day. After Game 4 on Day 2 the draw for Game 5 will be done and table assignments will be posted. You should proceed to your table as normal but do not start deploying. Instead you should lay out your army for presentation (if applicable, i.e. you painted the army yourself, armies not painted by the player be they bought, borrowed or contract painted are not eligible) and place a piece of paper with your name on it on the table with the army. Once all armies have been deployed in this manner, it is lunch time. Players have the lunch break to check out the armies on display. Once back from lunch, voting slips will be made available for you to record your favourite 3 armies. Once all players have voted, the scores will be tallied. For each 1st place vote a player receives he will get 3 points, 2nd place gives 2 points and 3rd place 1 point. Votes will be added up. The highest total of the beauty pageant will receive the award for “Best Painted Army” as voted by their peers.
